The Senate of the Imperivm Romanvm is a council where a select few citizens can discuss the state of the Republic and issue Senatus consulta as directives. They can also issue the Senatus consultum ultimum. These are virtually all decisive in nature, sometimes regarding appointments. It is said by Polybian theorists to represent the element of oligarchy in the Roman political equilibrium.

For MMDCCLXXIV AVC (2021 CE) and MMDCCLXXV AVC (2022 CE) the senate was appointed by the Princeps Senatus, this however will not be the standard going forwards as the censorship is meant to select senators (no senators can serve two consecutive terms).

Overview

Current consuls, praetors, censors and appointed senators are members of the Senate. Senators are appointed by the censors. The list of senators is regularly revised by the censors, but senators removed either by nota or under the terms of the lex Popillia senatoria are removed from the list until the nota is removed and they are returned to the Senate by the Censors as a senator.

All meetings of the senate are available to be listened to, played back and observed by the citizenship of the Imperivm Romanvm. However, they cannot participate in such discussions.

Senate Outcomes and Results

Senate meeting results will be published on the wiki formally once complete, as well as on the website and fora when appropriate. With each discussed topic being listed and the result of each outcome being clearly stated and highlighted.

If a citizen wishes to hear the process, the attached recording and transcript will detail each process and vote. If there is a discrepancy, then a citizen can report it to the Quaestors and/or Censors.

Debates

If any senator misses a scheduled debate (assuming the date discussed was planned at least a week earlier) then the senate can punish the senator that has missed the session if the absence was not planned or without reasonable cause. A senator can join a debate at any time but debates are always scheduled between 09:00 UTC+10 and end 17:00 UTC−08. A debate can start at any time between these times but always end at 17:00 UTC-08 (if no conclusion has occurred, a senate session can be extended as long as it does not conflict with another session). Senators can come and leave between those times. Senate debates do not take place during festivals.
