The galli (sing. gallus) are an order of priestesses who tend the rites of Cybele, also known as Magna Mater (Latin for Great Mother).

Transgender InterpretationEdit

According to mythology, the galli were founded by the demigod Attis, who castrated himself in anger against his male genitalia for compelling him to lust. In antiquity, the galli would emulate this act and go so far as to adopt feminine garb, mannerism, and lifestyle. Within Imperivum Romanvm, the parallels to modern notions of trans identity were acknowledged, and it was decided the galli would be exclusively transgender women; either having undergone physical or chemical castration in accordance with ancient ritual.
