Quirinus

Quirinus is a deity of the Roman state, often viewed as a protector or preserver of Rome. He is widely believed to be a deified form of Romulus, the founder and first king of Rome.

Worship

Quirinus held greater prominence in the early to mid-Republic, but over time his worship saw gradual decline. While his rites were never fully extinguished on account of his archflamen, his prior esteem was no longer found by the Imperial epoch. However, contemporary Roman Hellenists have placed additional emphasis on Quirinus, with his role as the deified Romulus being connected to renewed foundations and the goal of constructing a Third Rome.
